Letting go of our stories, means letting go of the past and not bringing it into the present. I once had a customer who had a hard time getting my horse to move forward. This took what felt like 10 minutes and then we were able to go back to the barn. When she came back two weeks later, her first question was whether the horse still liked her, as she had to be quite assertive to get him to move. From that comment and our conversation, she realized why she was hesitant to be assertive and stand up for her own needs. It was the fear of not being liked by others.
My horse, on the other hand, had no story and treated her the same as the time before.
What stories do you tell yourself in a difficult situation? Often they contain important clues about old wounds and unconscious fears.
