Book Excerpt

"In the hustle and bustle of everyday life, we often come to the stables, look forward to seeing our horse and walk briskly towards our friend with halter in hand - ready to do something. In doing so, we forget to ask permission to enter the horse's space. Then we are surprised when the horse avoids us rather than coming towards us. If we had mentally and physically taken our foot off the gas and taken the time to observe our horse's body language, we could have adjusted our approach accordingly. The horse would then have had no reason to walk away.

Here you discover how to approach your horse in a way that builds curiosity and then it almost seems magically drawn to you.

Book Reviews

“Marina Parris takes the idea of a holistic approach to a deeper level. This book speaks to the heart as well as the mind, body and spirit, offering soulful yet practical advice for treating horses as true partners on this journey we call life.”

Marina only found her way to horses later in life, but she came with an open heart and allowed herself to be transformed by the magical world of horses. When the exchange between horse and human takes place out of compassion, a deep relationship becomes possible. According to Marina, this happens when we are open to seeing things from the horse's perspective and are willing to reflect on our own behavior.

I was very pleased to read Marina's concise text. I enjoyed the clear progression of her philosophy and approaches and was impressed by her practical advice and consistent commitment to training horse people of all levels. This excellent book covers everything from mindfulness and awareness of horse behavior to the details of handling and training horses that are ridden under saddle and those that are not ridden and perhaps only used in equine assisted learning
Reading your book and dealing with the issues you raise in it on a daily basis has a profound influence, because reading your texts provides insights that cannot be avoided. The insights for many horse lovers are certainly that they simply learn to be much more conscious and mindful when dealing with their animals, precisely because your wonderful texts and words resonate long after the words have been read.

I don't have any close contact with horses myself, but the dog (in my case, of course, our dear Leo) is of course just as applicable to your texts and of course just as interested in the mindful implementation of the ideas in your book as I am. If it works with dogs, it also works with cancer, because it (or any other illness) is also there to teach me, just like our wonderful animal friends at our side.

So I can activate a mindful, sensitive, patient, loving, heart-centered approach to everything that resonates with me and gain enormous life quality, day after day. I always open your book intuitively and choose the topic that presents itself to me for the day. Of course, I think about it again and again during the day, depending on how active the day is, more or less, but I always benefit. A topic is sometimes also present tomorrow and the day after tomorrow, even alongside the new topic, and gives me the opportunity to treat myself the way I would like all animal and human friends to treat each other.
Yesterday your book arrived!

It's great! Very inspiring and affirming! The themes you have picked up on are the most important “building blocks” to any relationship...with the horse...with yourself...with others.

A warm thanks for your book!

It confirms and inspires me in what I have been doing and being with my horses so far! Thank you, dear Marina, that I no longer feel alone “out there in the world”.
